Computer Leak Analysis vs. Leak Detection Diving: What's the Difference?

When it comes to pool leaks, time is money. Whether you're a homeowner worried about water loss or a real estate agent under contract deadlines, identifying the source of a leak quickly and accurately is critical. At In Depth Pool Inspections, we use both computer leak analysis and refer out for leak detection diving—but what’s the difference, and when is one method better than the other?

What Is Computer Leak Analysis?

At In Depth Pool Inspections, we specialize in computer leak analysis, a non-invasive and accurate method of identifying whether a pool is losing water and under what conditions. Using a leak computer comprised of a float sensor and specialized software, we monitor water levels with the pump on and off to help determine the nature of the leak—whether it's plumbing-related or structural.

This method is ideal during real estate inspections. It’s quick and gives buyers or sellers immediate data on potential issues. We don’t have to dive or drain the pool, and our technology can often catch problems that would otherwise go unnoticed until much later.

What About Leak Detection Diving?

Leak detection diving, on the other hand, is a more invasive and targeted service. Divers enter the pool with specialized equipment to inspect and test specific areas—such as main drains, return lines, lights, or structural cracks. This service is often used after a computer analysis points to a problem area that requires closer examination.

At In Depth, we refer out for diving services when needed. Our goal is to start with the least disruptive, most data-driven tools first—then guide our clients to the appropriate specialists for deeper repairs or interventions.

Why It Matters

In real estate, time and clarity are everything. Our computer leak analysis service helps keep transactions moving by offering fast, trustworthy information about the pool’s condition. If further work is needed, we make sure clients are connected with experienced leak divers we trust.

We often recommend - especially in a transaction timeline - to pursue computer leak analysis FIRST and if water loss is detected to schedule out a dive if needed. The benefit of getting computer leak analysis first, even if you have to get a dive, is being able to provide the diver with valuable information on the potential location of the leak.
